Shaldon Bridge opens after repairs, a day ahead of schedule

Posted on:

Essential works to repair Shaldon Bridge have been completed this evening, a full day ahead of schedule.

It means the road has been reopened.

Repairs have been made this week to the lifting span and the fixed section of the bridge, and issues resolved regarding the bridge’s lifting chamber.

Highways teams also took the opportunity to clean all the gullies and undertake patch repairs to the anti-skid surfacing on the steel bridge deck.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Management said:

“The work done this week was essential, and through hard work the teams have completed it a full day earlier than scheduled.  My thanks to them, and to road users for their patience while we’ve carried out the work.”

Drivers this evening are advised that the diversion signs are currently still being collected, but are assured that the bridge is open.
