Our repairs of Rock Park Bridge in Barnstaple have been completed and it is now open for public use.
The 133-year-old bridge is part of the National Cycle Network and has been closed since May 2020 after our divers found wear in the bridge’s below-riverbed foundations.
It’s now open again for cyclists and pedestrians to use – but we’re urging the public to be careful because of icy conditions.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highway Management said:
“I’m delighted that we have been able to reopen the bridge in time for Christmas as promised – I know many people have missed being able to use it.
“However, I would urge people to cycle and walk with extreme caution. Although we have gritted the surface of the bridge’s wooden footway conditions remain slippery.”
