Learn Devon’s latest programme of free adult education courses is getting underway across Devon this month (September).
Around 200 courses are available through Learn Devon, which is Devon County Council’s adult education service.
The free courses aim to help adults in the county develop skills for work, whether it’s to change job or progress in their current careers.
They include English, Maths, Digital Skills and IT, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), as well as Skills and Development, Community and Engagement.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Cabinet Member with responsibility for adult education, said:
“Learn Devon has a number of flexible options to enable adults in the county to access courses, making it easier for people to gain the essential skills they need in today’s workplaces. Whether it’s building confidence with technology, learning functional skills of English and Maths, or studying for a GCSE, Learn Devon may have a course to suit your needs.”
Free online courses for GCSE maths and GCSE English start online on Tuesday 8 September. Find out more on the GCSE maths course pages and GCSE English course pages on the Learn Devon website.
Level 2 food safety and hygiene can be studied in an online course starting on Thursday 10 September, while a Level 2 Certificate in health and social care starts on Friday 11 September.
Free Digital Skills and IT courses include essential and functional digital skills which will be delivered in Bideford, Exmouth, Newton Abbot, and Tavistock. An “award in cybersecurity” can also be studied online.
For anyone who wants to improve their English, free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are available to help develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills to gain recognised qualifications and progress into further learning, training or work. Courses are delivered in Exmouth, Ilfracombe, Newton Abbot, and Exeter from Wednesday 9 September.
