‘Dusting’ will help protect county’s roads as heatwave continues

From this week specialist equipment is being used to protect many of Devon’s roads as surface temperatures are expected to reach around 60°C.

Dusting involves spreading a fine layer of stone over the road to stop it becoming soft and sticky in hot weather, helping keep the surface safe for drivers.

We started treating major routes earlier this week with this method to reduce the risk of damage following a cold, wet winter. Drivers are advised to take extra care in extreme heat, particularly on rural roads and recently treated surfaces.
