Bus fares from Sowton Park and Ride into the City centre will almost be halved when a new dedicated Park and Ride service launches in Exeter next month.
Service C from Sowton Park and Ride in Exeter will be replaced by a dedicated Park and Ride service. It will provide a simpler and more affordable option for people travelling into Exeter city centre, helping to reduce congestion while offering convenient access for commuters, shoppers and visitors.
Operated by Stagecoach and funded by Devon County Council, the new service will replace the current Service C from Sowton Park and Ride. Buses will continue to run to Paris Street in Exeter city centre and will operate every 15 minutes between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday.
The new service will begin operating on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
The site provides 600 parking spaces for Park and Ride users.
Adult return fares will be reduced from £6.00 to £3.50. A group return ticket, valid for up to five people travelling together, will be reduced from £13.00 to £7.00.
In addition, the cost of a weekly ticket, valid for seven consecutive days, will be reduced from £26.00 to £14.00.
Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for transportation, said:
“This improved service offers a more affordable and convenient travel option for people commuting to or visiting Exeter. It will help tackle congestion by encouraging greater use of public transport. Reducing personal car use is an important step in reducing our use of fossil fuels and responding to the climate emergency that is causing the heat waves we are currently experiencing. I’d like to thank the bus operators for working with us to bring this service to residents and visitors.”
Park and Ride services into Exeter city centre will continue to operate from Matford, Honiton Road and Sowton Park and Ride.
Sowton Park and Ride is located on Sidmouth Road, between the Services Roundabout and Middlemoor. Sat Nav users can use postcode EX2 5GL to find the entrance opposite Apple Lane.
