Despite the unfavourable weather during the first half of 2024, the project has made good progress in all sections over recent months, with a number of key project milestones being met.
With the weather improving, work will continue apace during the day and overnight. Working overnight ensures traffic flow can be maintained during the day while progressing with the scheme during the night.
While every effort is made to minimise noise disruption there will be some operations such as road planing and barrier installation that may generate some noise.
Portmore to Landkey
Between Portmore and Landkey, drainage and attenuation work has been completed along with the placement of materials for the bunding and landscaping.
The initial section of final surface course was completed at the end of May. The new Landkey footbridge was installed over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May which enables the completion of the footpath beneath the bridge and tie into the existing footpath network.
Final surface course at Landkey roundabout has been completed with work to the lay-by, verges and footpaths due to be completed in August.
Landkey to West Buckland
The earthwork between Landkey and West Buckland Junction has now been substantially completed, as has the construction of the additional southern carriageway for westbound traffic. Traffic has been transferred on to the newly constructed lane, to enable work to complete drainage improvements on the northern verge.
Once the drainage work is complete, which includes three large attenuation tanks and a layby, work will start on the final surface course. This is anticipated to take place towards the end of August.
The new West Buckland Bridge has seen the installation of the precast wall units, and we are in the process of completing the arch structure. Moving into August, work to install the parapet wall units across the bridge is due to get underway before progressing with the approach roads to the new bridge.
West Buckland to North Aller
The drainage work on the south side is progressing well and nearing completion. Following its completion, at the end of July, traffic will be diverted onto the new south lane, which will enable work to commence on the north verge drainage work. Once completed this will allow the surfacing work to start in August.
Borners Bridge
Over the last two months work on Borners Bridge junction has progressed into its final alignment. The road levels have been raised and the final surface course is largely complete, with finishing work such as signs and barriers being installed as its progresses towards completion.
