Peatland Restoration Sector Capacity Grant Scheme

Organisations currently engaged in peatland restoration can apply to a new Defra scheme for funding to help expand the capacity of the workforce. The Peatland Restoration Sector Capacity Grant Scheme will support a range of activities to remove barriers to peatland restoration by growing and developing the scope and size of the peatland restoration sector. The scheme has a total value of £1.15m.

Grants are available to expand the capacity of the local peatland restoration workforce through activities such as:

  • providing apprenticeships and internships,
  • improving relevant skills
  • attracting new entrants
  • attracting private investment
  • improving collaboration eg. by sharing specialist equipment

In 2026 you can apply for two-year funding, with grants up to £20,000 per year; funding in subsequent years will be restricted to one-year grants up to £20,000.
