Farming in Protected Landscapes is a grant scheme for farmers and land managers in National Parks and National Landscapes (formerly AONBs). There are two National Parks and five National Landscapes either wholly or partly in Devon.
The programme has been extended until March 2026 and will fund projects that:
- support nature recovery
- mitigate the impacts of climate change
- provide opportunities for people to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape and its cultural heritage
- protect and improve the quality and character of the area
The Farming in Protected Landscapes programme is open to all farmers and land managers within a National Park or National Landscape in England. This includes farmers and land managers from the public, private and charity sector.
You can apply for a small grant eg. for hedge-laying or tree-planting, or for larger amounts eg. for habitat restoration with wider benefits to the landscape, economy and community. You could get up to 100% of the costs of a project if you will not make a commercial gain through it. If you will benefit commercially from a project, then the programme will fund a proportion of the costs. The amount will depend on how much the project will benefit your business. Applications for over £10,000 will be judged by a Local Assessment Panel.
The programme has been developed by Defra and is being delivered locally by each of the National Parks/Landscapes in Devon. Projects will need to align with local priorities. You should refer to the appropriate NP/NL website for further information and details of how to apply.
Focus of fund/fund aims:
Funding for farmers and land managers with projects that support nature recovery, tackle climate change, provide opportunities for people to discover nature and support sustainable farm businesses
Application deadline:
You can apply at any time until the programme closes in 2026. Your project must end by March 2026.
