Defra has launched a new three-year programme for projects that strengthen the person and business resilience of farmers. The Farmer Welfare Grant has a total budget of £1.5 million and will support targeted work that promotes farmer welfare and wellbeing across the farming sector.
The fund sets out to increase:
- access to mental health support for agricultural workers
- uptake of agriculture-specific mental health support
- access to business resilience support in the agricultural community
The aim is to allow grant recipients to develop support that responds to the specific needs of farming communities and so the scheme does not specify the types of activities or approaches that applicants should propose.
Applicants can request grants of between £1,000 and £200,000 per year. Support is available to organisations, rather than individual farm businesses, and is limited to groups with experience of supporting farming communities.
Any charitable or third-sector not-for-profit organisation registered in England can apply.
