Ruby had an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and went to a special school. She has ASD and MLD. She achieved some entry-level qualifications by the end of year 11.
Ruby wanted to become more independent and was interested in becoming a car mechanic. After she left school Ruby went to her local college to do a foundation-level course. On this course, she improved her English and maths, learned to become more independent and learned the skills you need to find a job. She did this course for 3 years.
After this, Ruby went on to a supported internship. She had a work placement with support from a job mentor. As Ruby had really impressed the employer while on her supported internship she was given a job with them.
Ruby’s journey started at the foundation learning tier then moved onto a supported internship and finished with employment with training.
