The Devon Wallet is a new ‘virtual’ platform to deliver direct payments and personal budgets. Through the Devon Wallet, you can search, arrange, and book support within the Devon Wallet e-marketplace. You will be able to use your individual budget as agreed in your plan.
Starting with short break plans, we will be gradually moving away from our current prepaid card system to the Devon Wallet.
Families have told us that choice and control continue to be important to them and they would like:
- more visibility of the support available to them
- an easy-to-use online system with everything they need in one place
The Devon Wallet will provide you with choice, control and visibility of services available in Devon, allowing you to book and pay for your support all in one place.

- eliminating the need to manage a bank account

- reducing the need for paper records
- putting you at the heart of your support
How it works
- We add agreed funds to your Devon Wallet.
- You book your support.
- The Devon Wallet pays your support provider.
What happens next
You do not need to do anything at this stage.
If you are already receiving social care direct payments, we will contact you to discuss moving to the Devon Wallet. We will be starting with the families who have already agreed to be part of a pilot.
Your short break plan will continue without disruption. If your young person is 17 years old, please don’t worry, we will continue to use the current arrangement as we know that a change at this time would not be helpful to you.
We will also be running virtual drop-in sessions for you to come and ask us questions you may have. The sessions are scheduled to take place at the following times:
- Wednesday 6 March – 12.30 to 1.15 pm
- Thursday 14 March – 4.00 to 4.45 pm
- Friday 22 March – 10.00 to 10.45 am
To book a place, please email childsc.virtualwalletenquiries-mailbox@devon.gov.uk with the date of the session you would like to join and the name of your child or children. Please note that these sessions are currently only open to families that are already receiving social care direct payments.
We will continue to be available on the second Thursday of the month from 11:00 to 11:30 am from April 2024 until March 2025.
