Devon’s SEND Local Offer

Inclusion in schools

We aim to have an inclusive culture across all of our education settings in Devon.

The Education Inclusion Service provides a statutory but impartial service for parents and carers, school governors, headteachers, school staff and other agencies about inclusion, reintegration and exclusion.

Alternative provision

Alternative provision (AP) settings are places that provide education for children who can’t go to a mainstream school. Although school is the best place to learn for the majority of children and young people there are times when AP is needed.

Who is alternative provision for?

AP may be considered for pupils experiencing difficulty accessing education because of:

  • their mental or physical health
  • permanent exclusion
  • special educational needs

Please note that pupils can only be placed in these provisions by the Local Authority.

AP in Devon is provided by WAVE Multi Academy Trust at Glendinning Academy as well as four Pupil Referral Units (PRU):

Support for pupils with health needs

Information about the support available for pupils who can’t attend school full-time because of health needs can be found on our Medical conditions page.
