A new video from the Devon SEND Local Area Partnership talks to SEND families and the people who work with them about the approach the area is taking.
Devon’s Four Cornerstones have been co-produced. Co-production involves children, young people, parent carers and practitioners working together in an equal and reciprocal relationship. It enables genuine participation in decision-making. It is part of the Devon SEND Strategy’s commitment to rebuilding trust with families.
Devon’s Four Cornerstones are:
- Welcome and care
- Value and include
- Communicate
- Work in Partnership.
One parent says that feeling welcomed and cared for is “someone saying ‘I’ve got you – I’m going to talk you through the next steps’ and making sure you don’t feel like you’re going through this system alone.”
In the film, parents talk about what each cornerstone means to them, and staff from schools and services talk about the difference the approach makes in building or rebuilding relationships.
