Devon County Council has declared a climate emergency. We have committed to facilitating the reduction of Devon’s carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050 at the latest and improving the environment’s and our communities’ resilience to climate change.  We are leading a partnership to make a Devon Carbon Plan and a Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Adaptation Plan in response to the Devon Climate Emergency

The Council is committed to reducing its own emissions and set a target to become net-zero carbon by 2030. We updated our Carbon Reduction Strategy and Plan in 2019 and again in 2025, setting out how we aim to achieve our target. A Low Carbon Procurement Strategy was adopted in 2024 – it sets out how we will tackle emissions in our supply chain by improving our data and engaging with our suppliers. Our Highways and Traffic Management Team are working hard to understand and reduce emissions associated with their services based on their Decarbonisation Strategy. These pages also give some tips on how we can all play our part in addressing the climate emergency.
