Devon County Council, as the permitting authority, is consulting on fee levels for street works permits which are required by those who operate on its road network.
Permit volumes have been consistently challenging to model reliably with inconsistent trends coupled with reductions in permit applications over the past year.
While some permit fees in Devon have always operated below the thresholds set by the DfT in its statutory guidance, the scheme has an obligation to operate within a cost neutral environment.
To ensure those obligations continue to be met, the permit authority is proposing to increase its fee levels to mirror all those set by the DfT.
The plan itself has been reviewed, refreshed and updated since it was last consulted upon in 2023.
This consultation has now closed.
The consultation received one positive response and it is confirmed that Sec 6.21 of the DfT statutory guidance will be followed.
