Flags at County Hall have been flying at half-mast as a mark of respect following the death of The Duchess of Kent last night (Thursday 4 September) at the age of 92.

The official announcement from the Royal family said that “Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.”

Devon County Council Chair Caroline Leaver said:

“It’s incredibly sad to hear of the passing of The Duchess of Kent. She was a well loved and respected member of the Royal Family who dedicated so much of her life to good causes.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of The Royal Family, and in particular The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren.

“For many, The Duchess of Kent will be remembered fondly not just for her charity work but also for her appearances at Wimbledon, supporting The Duke of Kent in his role as President of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, and her love of music which she focused on in the later years of her life having founded the Future Talent charity in 2004.”
