Champions continue their push for better transport in Devon

Champions for Change transport meeting

On Tuesday 25 February, the Champions for Change met with members of Devon County Council transport services, professionals from Stagecoach and Devon Communities Together, to continue to their work on improving transport in Devon.

The Champions shared an extensive list of what makes an enjoyable journey to school. The aim is for this feedback to be used in developing training to ensure that these journeys are always enjoyable.

There was further discussion about finding possible way to enable multiple wheelchair users to travel together. Some ideas were shared, and these are going to be explored further.

The group also spent time discussing travel training and heard about the Travelling with Confidence project. The Champions shared their views on some of the things they like about travelling and things that can make travel difficult for them. A survey for young people to find out more about the barriers of using public transport is currently being created.

Karen Rose, the Team Leader for Integrated Public Transport, said:

“The Focus Group is proving to be a collaborative process, and there is a real appetite for continuing to develop the group as more ideas emerge for making travel improvements”.

The group are hoping to meet again before the summer holidays.
