Construction of the Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road is moving into its next phase, with temporary night-time traffic signals set to be introduced at the Station Road and Millennium Way junction from 14 September.
We’re advising residents, businesses and road users that temporary night-time traffic signals will be used at the junction as work continues on this major scheme.
From Monday 14 September 2026 until spring 2027, temporary four-way traffic signals will be in place at the junction between 7pm and 6am to enable night-time highway works linked to the relief road. Work is scheduled from Monday to Friday, although Saturday night working may occasionally be needed.
Our contractor will access the site via Longbridge Meadow Industrial Estate and has been asked to complete this phase as quickly as possible to help reduce disruption.
The night works are the first in a series of temporary traffic management measures that will be needed as the scheme progresses. The signals will allow site clearance, drainage works and utility diversions to take place safely before construction starts on the new Station Road roundabout.
The Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road will provide an alternative route around the town, helping to reduce congestion, improve connectivity and support future growth. As construction continues, further temporary traffic management will be required so works can be carried out safely and efficiently.
Councillor Dan Thomas, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said:
“This is another important step towards delivering the Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road, which will provide an alternative route around the town, help reduce congestion, improve connectivity and support future growth.
“We recognise that temporary traffic management can be inconvenient, but these measures are necessary to allow the project to move forward safely and efficiently. We are working closely with the contractor to minimise disruption wherever possible while keeping construction on track.”
Councillor James Buczkowski, Devon County Council’s member for Cullompton and Mid Devon District Council’s member for Cullompton St Andrews said:
“Many people in Cullompton have been looking forward to seeing progress on this long-awaited scheme, and these works are another step towards making the relief road a reality.
“I appreciate that the temporary signals may cause some disruption at times, but it’s important that this work is carried out safely. We will continue to keep residents, businesses and road users informed as the project progresses.”
The Station Road junction will remain open throughout the works, but traffic will be managed by the temporary signals and road users may experience some delays. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for journeys where possible.
Access for residents, businesses and emergency services will be maintained throughout the works, and clearly signed traffic management will be in place to help road users travel safely through the area.
Further traffic management measures, including any road closures, will be communicated to residents, businesses and road users well in advance, with signed diversion routes in place where needed.
