Seafarers’ Charity

Charities and not-for-profit organisations can apply to the Seafarers’ Charity for funding to support the safety and wellbeing of seafarers. The focus is on the merchant navy (including Royal Fleet Auxiliary) and fishers, with funding available for initiatives that improve the lives of seafarers through:

  • better working lives at sea
  • safer working lives at sea
  • improved health and well-being
  • enhanced financial resilience
  • increased social justice

Grants are available through three separate programmes:

Main Grant Programme – grants for safety initiatives and welfare services to seafarers and fishers
Merchant Navy Fund – grants for UK Merchant Navy seafarers and their families in times of need International Fund for Fishing Safety – funding to support safer fishing worldwide, including basic safety training

Grants range from £1,600 for events to support the seafaring community to £500,000 for the costs of running the seafarer helpline service.

Application deadline:

Apply by mid June for consideration at the July committee meeting, and by mid September for consideration in October.
