Scaling Innovation Programme

UK organisations of any size can apply for funding to address barriers to travel for disabled people. The funding comes from the Motability Foundation and the programme is administered by the National Centre for Accessible Transport.

Projects are expected to address one of the following challenges:

  1. Vehicle Stop Design – to design vehicle stops that are universally accessible, predictable and informative for people with diverse impairments
  2. Travel Assistance Services –  to improve and expand travel assistance services so that disabled passengers have greater autonomy, confidence, and real-time control over their journeys
  3. Access to Information – to find ways of personalising and improving access to live travel information so that disabled passengers can travel with greater confidence, clarity, and control

This is a phased programme:

Initial planning – up to 20 projects will each receive £10,000 to plan their delivery

Delivery – 12-15 projects will be evaluated and selected from the planning phase to secure between £50,000 and £150,000 to deliver live trials

Final phase – further funding of £100,000 to £150,000 will be available for 8-10 pre-demonstrator and trial projects that progress from the delivery phase

Applicants must demonstrate that their project includes strong, specific and proactive plans to involve disabled people throughout.
