Path Accessibility Fund

The Ramblers Path Accessibility Fund supports projects to make paths more accessible, particularly focusing on removing the barriers that prevent those with reduced mobility getting outdoors. The funding can be used for projects on Public Rights of Way (PROW).

The fund welcomes applications for:

  • projects that open up more paths for wheeled users, including those using aids such as walkers, trampers and mobility scooters as well as families with pushchairs and buggies. Innovative projects that replace stiles or barriers with gaps or wider pedestrian gates will therefore be considered.
  • accessibility improvement projects in places where people already face greater barriers to enjoying the great outdoors, including places where less well-off communities live
  • projects that connect urban areas to green spaces or make it easier for people to walk to local amenities, work or school
  • accessible improvements in popular walking places that are well served by public transport

The average grant is £2,500 but larger grants will be considered for projects that represent good value for money and where there is a strong element of match funding.

Anyone can apply to the Ramblers fund including landowners, parish councils, community groups and voluntary organisations.

Projects will need agreement from the landowner and the highway authority for the project to go ahead: for projects in Devon, please email Devon County Council’s PROW team at prow@devon.gov.uk

For larger projects, parish councils participating in the Parish Paths Partnership (P3) scheme may also want to consider bidding for P3 funding from Devon County Council.
