Horizon Europe

Large-scale international partnerships with a joint research project can apply for funding from Horizon Europe. This is the EU research and innovation programme.

The UK is now formally an associate country to Horizon Europe and so UK organisations can apply for funding to participate in the programme, with all successful UK applicants covered through the UK’s association (or through the UK guarantee scheme) for the remainder of the programme.

Here’s what you need to know:

Horizon Europe has a budget of €95.5 billion for large-scale international research and innovation projects

This is a strategic programme so is aimed at innovative work that will have an impact at EU level.

Funding is available for all types of research and innovation, support for research organisations, co-operation and networking and support for innovative businesses.

Opportunities for research proposals cover a vast range of topics, grouped as follows:

  • Civil Security for Society
  • Digital, Industry & Space
  • Climate, Energy & Mobility
  • Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture & Environment

UK researchers can apply for grants and bid to take part in projects under the Horizon programme, with certainty that the UK will be participating as a fully associated member for the remaining life of the programme to 2027
