Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the EU research and innovation programme: UK organisations can apply for funding to participate in the programme, based on an EU/UK agreement which makes the UK an ‘associate country’ to Horizon Europe.

The new Horizon Europe work programme for 2026/27 has now been published setting out the priorities for the final two years of the programme. There has been a move to simplify the programme and to reduce the number of topics.

Opportunities for research proposals are grouped into six clusters:

  1. Health
  2. Culture, Creativity & Inclusive Society
  3. Civil Security for Society
  4. Digital, Industry & Space
  5. Climate, Energy & Mobility
  6. Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture & Environment

The work programmes for each cluster can be found here.

There are also a range of different opportunities for researchers as well as complementary programmes such as European Innovation Ecosystems which makes connections between research institutions and develops and strengthens research networks.

For most funding opportunities, you need to apply as part of an international partnership: there is help available for finding partners or joining an existing collaboration.

Support is available to help you apply for Horizon Europe funding. You can find out more from UK Research & Innovation (UK): Horizon Europe: help for UK applicants – UKRI
