Fund title: Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Focus of fund/fund aims:

A government scheme to subsidise the costs of building gigabit-capable broadband networks to hard-to-reach rural areas

Application deadline:

The scheme is due to run until March 2021 or when the funding runs out

Fund description:

Homes and businesses in rural areas of the UK may be eligible for funding towards the cost of installing gigabit-capable broadband when part of a group scheme.

Rural premises with broadband speeds of less than 100Mbps can use vouchers worth £1,500 per home and up to £3,500 for each small to medium-sized business (SME) to support the cost of installing new fast and reliable connections.

The scheme targets areas where the cost of building new gigabit broadband infrastructure, which often requires digging trenches to lay full fibre cables to doorsteps, is likely to be too high for commercial operators to cover alone. In these areas, communities can set up group projects, where two or more residents and/or SMEs get together to combine their vouchers towards the shared cost of installation.
