Climate Action Fund: Food Systems

The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) has launched a new fund to support the production and consumption of healthy, affordable food. The Climate Action Fund (Food Systems) is for projects that strengthen our food system and reduce food insecurity for people and communities.

Grants of between £2.5m and £7m are available for large-scale, partnership projects that make a lasting impact on climate change, the environment and nature.

Projects need to work towards systems change so that they achieve at least one of the following aims:

  • community organisations grow and produce food – using agroecological methods
  • food gets distributed – aiming for equitable access to healthy, affordable food for all
  • people and communities have different food options – especially those experiencing poverty, disadvantage or discrimination

You must apply as part of a partnership. All organisations in the partnership must be a registered charity, company limited by guarantee, CIC, CIO, CBS, co-operative society, public body or school/college/university.

A webinar will be held on 17 February 2026 to provide more information about the new programme.
