A new UK Town of Culture competition will be launching soon with an award of £3.5million for the winning town. Small and medium sized towns will be able to enter the competition, setting out what makes them unique and how they contribute to the national story. Entries will be judged on:
- Your story – the unique story of the town
- Culture for everyone – how the town will design a cultural programme for all
- Making it happen – how the town will then deliver a successful programme
Shortlisted towns will receive £60,000 to help develop their full application for the competition, with the winning town receiving £3.5million to help deliver a cultural programme during the summer of 2028.
The new competition sits alongside the existing UK City of Culture competition which is currently open for applications for 2029.
