Active Travel Innovation Fund

A new £1million fund has been announced by government to help deliver initiatives that enable more people to walk, wheel or cycle.

Grants of up to £100,000 are available for initiatives that improve access to active travel, including:

  • increasing access to opportunities for safer walking, wheeling and cycling
  • addressing needs, gaps or opportunities
  • increasing the impact of active travel interventions
  • supporting groups that are underrepresented in active travel
  • helping to address other priorities such as health, safety, the economy and net zero

Eligible projects may involve community initiatives, partnerships between local authorities and businesses or digital tools to enhance safety and accessibility. The funding is revenue only and can be spent on active travel interventions, with a focus on engagement and behaviour change.

Applicants can be sole traders, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, companies, charities, Community Interest Companies or consortia, provided all partners meet the eligibility criteria. Lead organisations must qualify as small or medium-sized enterprises with fewer than 250 employees.
