Biffa Award: Partnership Grants 2025

Each year, Biffa Award makes a small number of grants of between £250,000 and £1,000,000 for projects that have national or regional significance. The 2025 Partnership Grants Scheme is now open for Expressions of Interest.

There are two themes:

Built Environment – for projects that restore, modernise and/or improve facilities such as cultural, heritage or visitor centres. The facility must be inclusive and be open to the general public.

Natural Environment – for projects that protect and restore species and habitats. Projects should support the delivery of national or local environmental strategies.

Note that projects must sit clearly within one of the themes and cannot cut across both.

The funding is part of the Landfill Communities Fund and projects must therefore be located within 15 miles of a Biffa operation: there are Biffa sites at Plympton, Plymstock, Woodbury Salterton and Newton Abbot, as well as Chard. Your project also needs to be within 10 miles of a licensed landfill site. There are postcode checkers on the Biffa Award website where you can check if your project is eligible.

In order to be able to apply please note that:

  • you require a 10% third-party contribution
  • all shortfall funding must be secured
  • if required, planning permission must be in place

Charitable and not-for-profit organisations can apply. Local authorities, schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities are not eligible. Village halls, community centres and churches are not eligible for Partnership Grants but may be able to apply for grants from other Biffa Award funds or from alternative LCF schemes.

Focus of fund/fund aims:

Large grants for significant projects to restore or improve visitor centres or the natural environment
