All County Councillors are each paid a Basic Allowance. Some are also paid a Special Responsibility Allowance to reflect additional duties they perform. They may also claim mileage and subsistence expenses while carrying out their duties. Councillors also receive a small locality budget in order to respond to local needs within any financial year, such as making grants to support projects or activities that benefit the communities they represent.
