Phase one of Natural Flood Management (NFM) works have been completed in Stokeinteignhead! This includes scrapes and leaky dams (above) which have been designed to encourage a floodplain reconnection in the field, aiming to increase water storage and slow the flow of water travelling down into the village below. Baseline surveys have been completed by our PhD students, in order for extensive monitoring to be carried out, assessing the effectiveness of these NFM interventions. Stokeinteinghead is also part of the surface water flood forecasting pilot project and Property Flood Resilience surveys have been carried out on the village hall and shop – both aiming to further increase resilience to flooding.
