Restorative Practice e-learning

Who this course is for: All Devon Children’s Services employees and partner agencies.

Aims and objectives:
– Develop a solid grounding in restorative practice theory, principles and practice
– Provide an overview of the language of restorative practice
– Explore what it means to develop a restorative culture within the organisation of Devon County Council.
– Develop the knowledge and understanding to be able to facilitate a one-to-one restorative conversation
– Provide an overview of circle processes

This e-learning is essential for all employees across Devon Children’s Services who have not already completed Restorative Practice Training. It is key learning in induction for new staff, and will also be useful for those that have already been on Restorative Practice training and want a refresher. It is possible to complete elements of the eLearning as part of a team meeting, where it can be used as a discussion piece or development activity.

This training is also available for partner agencies who work alongside Children Services and have access to DEL, our online booking system. To request an account, email DeL@devon.gov.uk

Introduction to Restorative Practice Workshops

This is a new one-day workshop facilitated by Devon Restorative Practice Advisors and Learning & Development colleagues.

By using a range of practitioners based and working in Devon, we are also able to offer follow-up and on-going restorative support and assistance to you and your teams helping to embed learning in day-to-day practice.

Workshop Objectives
·  To develop an understanding of the Restorative Devon Framework and the 5 core principles which underpin our practice
·  To enhance your skills, knowledge and confidence in restorative practice
·  Develop skills and confidence in holding restorative conversations and restorative circles
·  To provide a value base, language, behaviours and tools to strengthen relationships with children, young people,  families, partnership colleagues and each other
·  Practice conversations using specific case scenarios and reflect upon the skills needed to further develop confidence and competence in restorative practice

Essential Motivational Interviewing training

Aim:
To develop our understanding and confidence in using Motivational Interviewing to model this strengths-based approach in Devon

Objectives:
• To gain a practical understanding of what Motivational Interviewing is, and how it relates to other strengths-based approaches, including Restorative Practice
• To gain a practical understanding of the cycle of behaviour change, and how it can inspire families
• To be able to use a few key MI techniques in a safe learning environment

The course is backed up by our free Motivational Skills App which is packed with MI resources – video demonstrations, reference materials and audio interviews with practitioners sharing their own MI success stories. This live learning tool is updated monthly with new material to help embed your learning and develop your practice personally and in your team.
