There are currently two routes available to DCC employees – the BA or PG Dip courses offered by the Open University – please see below. Application packs are available from April, with interviews being held in June.
DCC are extremely interested in scoping Social Work Apprenticeships and will post information as soon as it is available.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme
We are offering a number of Opportunities for the Traineeship Scheme to gain a Social Work qualification linked to the Open University. We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated social care staff already employed within Adult Social Care.
You will need to:
- have current or previous work experience that involves direct contact with people seeking support in social care
- meet the entry requirements of the Open University Degree
- demonstrate how you have sought and taken opportunities to further your own development
- have the support of your immediate Line Manager and your Centre Manager, Community Services Manager, or Resource Manager, as you will remain in your substantive post during the course of the degree and will need to be released for study time and to complete placements.
The BA course begins in October. Sponsorship is available on the basis that the qualification will be completed in three years.
The Open University are also offering a Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Social Work
This is a 17-month intensive programme including two practice learning placements.

Devon County Council will pay half of the course fees, provide placement time and appropriate learning opportunities. To support your studies DCC will also help with study leave. Candidates will be expected to work for Devon County Council for two years following qualification.
