Season’s greetings from Councillor Caroline Leaver, Chair of Devon County Council

A family wrapped up in warm festive clothes going for a walk in the woods, children and adults

As the year draws to a close, I’m filled with gratitude for everyone across Devon who continues to strengthen the fabric of our communities.

This is a time for joy and togetherness, but it can also be a difficult time for those struggling with things like loneliness, stress, and anxiety. Mental health challenges can affect people of all ages, young and old alike, and they don’t take a holiday. It’s important we acknowledge that. Supporting each other, checking in on friends, neighbours, and colleagues, can make a world of difference.

At Devon County Council, we work every day to support our communities, whether through social care, public health, education, or services that keep people connected and safe. But we know we can’t do it alone.

My chosen charity this year is Devon Mind. They provide vital support for people across our county, through counselling, peer groups, and practical advice, helping those who need it most to find hope and strength. Their work is life-changing, and demand for their services is higher than ever.

If you’re able, please consider supporting Devon Mind by donating today – www.devonmind.com/donate

Your generosity enables them to maintain helplines, resources, and community services right when they’re needed most, and ensure that no one in Devon has to face mental health challenges alone, especially during the festive season.

On behalf of Devon County Council, I wish you peace, happiness, and good health this Christmas and in the year ahead.

Warm wishes,
Councillor Caroline Leaver
