Keep it green this summer and win a day out

This summer Devon’s residents are being encouraged to keep it green and take a pledge to win one of five Big Green Days Out.

Recycle Devon has teamed up with Devon’s Top Attractions, Stagecoach South West, Great Western Railway, Devon Climate Emergency (DCE) and Clean Devon to share tips on how to enjoy a day out, the green way.

Top tips include reusing instead of using single use items, visiting local attractions and places, using sustainable transport and avoiding littering.

Residents can win 1 of 5 Big Green Days Out by pledging to adopt these greener habits on days out:

The prizes consist of a Reusable/Eco Picnic Set, Reusable Water Bottles, Devon’s Top Attractions entry tickets, Stagecoach tickets and Rail tickets. Each pledge entry will be added to a prize draw, to be drawn on August 7 2023.

The Big Green Day Out supports the need to conserve resources and save energy to help combat climate change.

In 2019 Devon County Council, Torbay and Devon’s District Councils declared a Climate Emergency. As a result, Devon County Council has committed to facilitating the reduction of Devon’s carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050 at the latest.

Councillor Roger Croad, Chair of the Devon Authorities Strategic Waste Committee, said:

“There is so much to see and do in Devon. We can all play a part in combating climate change and enjoy what Devon has to offer while ensuring we don’t damage the environment.

“If you are planning a day out this summer ask yourself, can you use sustainable travel instead of driving? Or could you take a picnic with reusable items to reduce waste?

“Taking litter home sounds like an obvious one, but you’d be surprised how many don’t and leave it for others clean up.

“But with your help we can protect natural habitats and ensure that the local environment is tidy for everyone to enjoy.”
