The Devon, Plymouth & Torbay (DPT) Careers Hub has launched its new employer brochure, inviting businesses across the region to play a key role in preparing young people for the world of work.

The DPT Careers Hub, which was established in 2018 in partnership with The Careers & Enterprise Company, works with every state-funded secondary school, special school, alternative provision, and post-16 college in the region.

Its mission is to bring educators and employers together to provide meaningful careers education that builds confidence, skills, and aspirations in young people.

The new brochure outlines four flexible ways for employers to get involved:

  • Careers Champions – volunteer your time on an adhoc basis for one-off activities like mock interviews or careers talks;
  • Enterprise Advisers – provide strategic support to schools over a year-long commitment, including careers programme development and mentoring;
  • Employer Partners – offer work place visits, work experience, curriculum input, or teacher insight days;
  • Cornerstone Employers – key employers that can offer a long term commitment to lead outreach and policy shaping across the region.

With over 200 employers already engaged and 80% reporting improved apprenticeship recruitment, the DPT Careers Hub is proving to be a powerful tool for both social impact and workforce development.

Councillor Simon Clist, Cabinet Member for Assets and Resources, said:

“By getting involved you’re not only supporting young people to develop their employability skills and understanding of the world of work, you’re investing in the future of your business and your community. Working with the Careers Hub is an opportunity to raise your profile as an employer and you can make a real difference in your local community by inspiring the next generation who could provide the skills needed in your sector.”

“Every employer has something to offer,” said Jo Skeel, Strategic Hub Lead. “Whether it’s an hour of your time or a long-term partnership, your involvement helps young people take meaningful steps toward their future — and helps businesses build stronger, more diverse talent pipelines.”

To find out more and connect with other like-minded businesses, employers are invited to attend the DPT Careers Hub Employer Conference at Sandy Park on Wednesday 20 November from 8:30am – 12noon.

This event will showcase best practice, share insights, and explore how employers can make a real impact in careers education across the region. You can register at Devon, Plymouth and Torbay Careers Hub Employer Conference 2025 – Registration
