We have officially launched the sixth year of our flagship Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps programme, offering over 2,000 adults in the region a unique opportunity to upskill or retrain for in-demand jobs.

Backed by government funding as part of the national Skills for Life initiative, this latest wave of Train4Tomorrow will deliver high-quality, employer-designed training across key growth sectors; from construction trade skills, HGV driving, EV charger installation, AI and data skills and early years education.

Courses are available to adults aged 19 or over in Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay, and for those looking to move into new employment, there is a guaranteed job interview on completion. Training is tailored to meet current local vacancies, giving participants a fast track to employment in future-facing industries.

As part of this round of activity, providers are also placing a heightened focus on working with care experienced young people, with a range of ring fenced placements, mentoring opportunities and additional support being offered to assist with the barriers they often face.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs and Broadband, says:

“We know there are employers across Devon crying out for skilled workers, particularly in the early years sector, where nurseries, preschools, and childcare providers are facing critical shortages, and this impacts not only families but the wider economy.

“Train4Tomorrow directly responds to these gaps by equipping local people with the tools to succeed and regional businesses with the talent to grow. This is more than training, it’s a powerful investment in Devon’s economic future.

“This programme is about removing barriers and opening doors for those looking to enter vital sectors, like engineering and early years education. Whether you’re returning to work, changing careers, or upskilling in your current role, Train4Tomorrow offers real training for real jobs, at no cost to the learner.

“It’s a win-win. Residents get access to new careers, and employers get the workforce they need to thrive.”

There are over 60 Skills Bootcamps on offer, such as regenerative farming, project management, digital marketing and aircraft engineering skills.

With courses worth up to £3,500, fully funded for individuals, Train4Tomorrow is open to people from all backgrounds; including those returning to work, changing careers, the self-employed, or currently unemployed. The training is typically designed to be flexible and accessible, delivered over 5–30 hours per week, for up to 16 weeks, in formats including online, blended and in-person.

This wave builds on the success of previous rounds, which have already helped over 4,000 learners into better jobs, new sectors, and long-term career paths.

Ben Squire, an Aircraft Mechanic at Exeter Aerospace and a previous participant of the Skills Bootcamp programme, comments: “I started off in Agricultural Engineering but hit a point where I couldn’t progress any further and so was looking for a new opportunity. I wanted to get into the Aviation industry and found out about the Skills Bootcamps. The 10 week course really widened my knowledge and It made a real difference stepping into my current role at Exeter Aerospace. I’d definitely recommend a Skills Bootcamp to anyone considering a change. It’s a great way to build your confidence, grow your skills and start a new career.”

Employers are also encouraged to get involved, either by upskilling their existing staff (with up to 90% funding) or recruiting directly from the pool of job-ready course participants.
