Fire Duty Safety to Manage (online)
Dates, times and costs to be confirmed.
Please contact healthsafety-mailbox@devon.gov.uk to be placed on the waiting list and we will inform you as soon as training becomes available.
Following the report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry on 3 September, the current policy for fire risk assessment will change. The report was (predictably) very damning of the standard of the fire risk assessment of Grenfell Tower.
The report consequently demanded a mandatory national register for fire risk assessors (for example, similar to Gas Safe for gas technicians).
This is a Public Inquiry recommendation, but the machinery of government has already begun to move to a national register of competent fire risk assessors. This means that at some time in the future, we will no longer be able to follow the policy of training managers to undertake their own fire risk assessment.
Simon Bates, DCC Head of Health and Safety, is therefore taking a paper to SLT requesting a policy change. Options will be presented, but with clear recommendation that external competent contractors are sourced to undertake fire risk assessment in DCC buildings.
Details are yet to be finalised but arrangements will be much more aligned with asbestos or legionella management.
The training in FRA will be replaced by Fire Safety Duty to Manage training for the local appointed responsible manager. This will run from 2025. You will, therefore, not be able to update your existing FRA training but will at some stage in 2025 need to complete the Fire Safety Duty to Manage equivalent.
In terms of the review of your current FRA, until the policy changes are agreed, the old policy continues, so continue to review your FRA annually as normal for the time being.
If, in the absence of the usual training update, you need assistance or have questions regarding fire safety arrangements, please do get in touch for help.
