Autism Involvement Group (AIG) – September 2018

AIG meeting held on 25th September 2018

Summary

This AIG discussions included:

Employment Discussion

Sophie Holmes, Devon County Council Senior Commissioning Officer – Disabilities shared the ready when you are campaign video with the group. The  video is trying to challenge the notion that employers may perceive autism/mental health/learning disabilities as quite difficult to manage, we are challenging that with this video. The group went on to discuss the Ready When You Are campaign, which is initially targeting businesses.

‘Disability Confident’ is about employers looking at their recruitment process, including/encouraging people to apply for their vacancies. employers signing up will be expected to ensure that their recruitment process is inclusive.

Dimensions For Autism Update

AIG is a Devon County Council Autism Involvement Group, this group recruits people with autism rather than parents and carers via the wider Dimensions for Autism Group.

East Devon District Council had recently confirmed they would like DFA to do their Autism Awareness training. DFA will continue to prompt other organisations who have said they will be interested and hope to be up and running as DFA trainers on a regular basis in January 2019.
