DAANA – Devon Adult Autism & ADHD Service​

A presentation was shared with AIG members about the work being done within the DAANA team including updates on the staffing condition involving new staff members.

There was discussion around the online platform “SilverCloud” which is an online support system that helps provide guidance for individuals who have recently received a diagnosis. DAANA mentioned how their own staff members with diagnosis of Autism and ADHD have attended SilverCloud webinars sharing their own experiences.

New Mental Health Unit in Dawlish –

A person from the NHS attended the meeting and shared a presentation with the group about the future plans for a new mental health unit that is being built in Dawlish, this unit has been customized to focus on the needs of adults with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities. The presentation went through the reasonable adjustments that have been put in place including floor plans, the layout of rooms including sensory calming areas and also private cooking’s areas.

NHS Devon Oliver McGowan Training 

It was confirmed that Oliver McGowan training has now launched and sessions have started. Praise was given to all Autistic adults and those with learning disabilities through the work they have been involved in; and also to Living Options Devon around the work they have done with the Training Trios that have been delivering the training.

Dimension For Autism (DFA) Update

DFSA now has 10 different groups a month, on average they have 90 attendees a month, the group is continuing to expand with new members joining.

Looking at revamping the hospital passport for autistic people, the group have been comparing, working and looking at other organisations hospital passports and reviewing how DFA can improve their own.

DFA are hoping to attend the respect festival later in the year.
