Community Automated External Defibrillators Fund

There is still funding available for communities and businesses that want to install an automated external defibrillator (AED) for their area. The Community AED Fund is helping to provide AEDs in public places to ensure that they are easily accessible if someone is experiencing an unexpected cardiac arrest.

This is a one-off scheme which allows you to obtain a new fully automatic defibrillator and external cabinet. You will need to provide match funding of around £750 towards the costs of the AED. There are 1,900 AEDs available through the match-funding scheme – more than half of these have been allocated so you are advised to act promptly if you wish to apply.

All types of organisations are eligible to apply apart from schools/academies which are supported under a different DfE scheme.

To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate that defibrillators will be placed in areas where they are most needed, such as places with high footfall, vulnerable people, rural areas or due to the nature of activity at the site. The area needs to be accessible to members of the public 24 hours a day. Note that the AED requires a power supply.
