The Suez Communities Fund provides grants of up to £50,000 for capital improvements to facilities that benefit the general public. This includes village halls, community centres, cycle paths, playgrounds, sports facilities and historic buildings. Projects need to be within 2.5 miles of a qualifying Suez site: these include Woodbury Salterton and Brynsworthy (Barnstaple).
The funding can be used for capital works to improve existing public amenities but cannot be used for extensions or new builds.
The funding is part of the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) and so, in addition to the location, projects need to meet several criteria that relate to the LCF. This includes the need for a Contributing Third Party (further guidance is available about this) and for projects to be open to the public (as a minimum, for 4 evenings a week, or 2 days a week, or 104 days a year).
Applications can be made by voluntary organisations, community groups / associations, sports clubs, charities, parish / town councils, local authorities, social enterprises and Community Interest Companies. Schools and other educational establishments cannot apply.
