The Greener Homes Alliance provides loan finance to small and medium-sized (SME) housebuilders to facilitate the construction of sustainable homes that meet high environmental standards. Phase 2 of the programme has now launched with a total budget of £150m.
To qualify for the scheme, developers must ensure that all homes built are fossil-fuel free and have an average SAP score of 85 or more (to demonstrate energy efficiency). Interest rates are discounted depending on how many additional criteria are met: these include building on a brownfield site, diverting waste from landfill, biodiversity net gains and affordable housing.
Loans range from £2 million to £20 million and are available to SME housebuilders and developers.
