Drainage works in Blackawton
Blackawton Parish Council were awarded funding from the HMCEF to carry out drainage works around the Parish.
The funds were focussed on improving drainage resilience, particularly bearing in mind the new challenges posed by increasingly intense rainfall resulting from climate change. The main project was a thorough restoration of drainage “infrastructure” around the two Woodford Bridges, a low-lying area with two streams and prone to road flooding. Other projects included re-forming a let/channel into the top of Bow Wood to reduce water/flooding at the bottom of that hill around Bow Cross, and the blocked buddle into Cornish Copse, where persistent puddling is causing road surface damage (with more work inside the copse required to deliver long-term resilience).
The works have helped reduced flooding of roads and improved community resilience. The contractor that was used to carry out the works has also helped support other nearby Parishes
