Case Study
PPE, Tools and Equipment in Communities
Many local communities have applied for funding in order to gain the necessary tools and equipment, along with the relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to carry out their own maintenance works.
Great Torrington Parish Council received funding towards the cost of new grass cutting equipment and a chainsaw to enable their team of volunteers to carry out maintenance. The equipment has enabled grass verges and vegetation within the parish to be maintained, ultimately improving the appearance of the town and ensuring public safety.
Ideford Parish Council received a grant for £246.00 towards the purchase of Personal Protection Equipment and litter picking equipment. In addition to keeping the highway network clear, the equipment is used throughout the parish to keep the Village Green and Public Rights of Way clean and free from litter while ensuring that volunteers are safe, visible and protected.
The Council further plan to use the equipment to assist tidy ups after public events such as their Fete or during National Litter Picking and Tidy Up days. The equipment may also be loaned to neighbouring parishes.
Ipplepen Parish Council received a Highway Maintenance Community Enhancement grant for £1000.00 to purchase personal protective equipment and signage. The equipment will be used by volunteers who have received training funded by Devon County Council to work on small maintenance projects.
Lydford Parish Council received funding to purchase equipment for their newly qualified parish lengthsman. Works carried out to date include the removal of leaves from drains, maintenance of road verges and the clearing of vegetation from streams. This work will help to reduce drain blockages in the centre of the village, reduce flooding and improve pedestrian safety, as there are no pavements within the village.
