Closures
To carry out this work, the road will be closed at the Whitehills junction for 11 months. Once the roundabout is complete, the work will move to Forches Cross where there will be a further closure for 12 months.
The potential impacts of using temporary traffic lights, and road closures with diversions, has been assessed and compared through the use of traffic simulation technology.
Delivering these latest improvements with temporary traffic lights would mean that construction would take three years to complete, whereas closing the A382 for 11 months, and once complete, following on with 12 months at Forches Cross, reduces construction time by a year.
You will be able to get to all of the businesses in the area and Stover School will also be accessible for the duration of the work. Additional signs, directing you to businesses, will be included on the diversion routes.
Diversions
Two diversion routes will be in operation, via the A383 and B3193, during the work which will be signed to help you get to where you’re going.
The traffic levels on these diversion routes will be continually monitored to enable journey times to be displayed on 17 digital message signs to tell you which route is the quickest for your journey.
Feedback from businesses along the route has helped to inform the development of the traffic management plans, and to ensure the diversion routes are able to cope with re-directed traffic, a number of other interventions will also be introduced. These will include:
- Re-programming of existing traffic lights
- Making Greycoat Lane one way
- Closure of Ringslade Road southbound
- Traffic signals at junction of Clay Lane/Clay Pits Way
