Winkleigh Primary School: Consultation on lowering age range

The Governing Body of Winkleigh Primary School is consulting on a proposal to change the school’s age range from 4-11 years to 2-11 years with effect from 1 January 2017.

The objective of the proposal is to create additional spaces for children aged 2 – 4 years within the School and will provide 8 x 2 year old places and 29 x 3 and 4 year old places at full capacity. The accommodation for the additional children will be organised in a Foundation Unit using the existing buildings, led by an existing qualified teacher supported by 6 qualified early years practitioners.

The children will access early support and interventions, with the opportunity of improving standards using support from within the whole school setting. This will result in greater continuity of care, safeguarding their education and therefore benefiting the community. There will be a key worker support system in place for all children.
