Proposal to Enlarge South Molton Community Primary School
Devon County Council is consulting on plans to enlarge South Molton Community Primary School from 240 places to 315 places from September 2021.
The proposal to increase capacity at the school from 240 school places to 315 places is in response to current and planned housing development in South Molton. 1322 dwellings are proposed in South Molton during the period 2011-2031 as outlined in the adopted North Devon and Torridge Local Plan.
This proposal has been brought forward in close consultation with the town primary schools.
The proposed development seeks to deliver a new four classroom teaching block.
Cost and Planning
Conditional planning permission has been secured for the new teaching block. The estimated cost of the scheme is in the region of £2million.
This proposal to increase places to 315 is part of a proposed phased development to eventual expansion of the school to 420 places. The expansion to 420 places would be subject to the demand for school places, conditional on capital approval and dependent on further consultation and planning consent.
The Department for Education School Organisation regulations are being followed and Devon County Council, as the decision maker, will carefully consider all you say, which will help us plan further for the future and we will keep you informed throughout the process here on Have Your Say.
Your views will inform any decisions for future provision, taking into account Devon County Council’s statutory responsibility to provide places for all pupils in Devon.
