Consultation:

Proposal for a primary school and associated residential development at Thorne Farm, Ottery St Mary

Devon County Council has been working for a number of years to find a solution to the significant flood risk present at Tipton St John Primary School. Flooding has affected the school on 8 occasions in the past 10 years. The Environment Agency has confirmed flooding presents a risk to life for pupils and staff and the only solution is to move the school to a new site outside of flood zone.

A fundamental challenge to building a replacement school is the availability of funding. In order to bridge the £5 million shortfall in funding needed for the new school, Devon County Council recently consulted on a proposal which would relocate the school to Thorne Farm in Ottery St Mary alongside the development of 150 homes.

Further information about the proposal can be found in the community consultation leaflet below.

The comments that have been received to the consultation will inform the preparation of a planning application which will be submitted to East Devon District Council in 2020.
