Consultation:

Pinhoe Station Interchange

Background

A number of transport improvements are being delivered in Pinhoe to enhance sustainable travel choices for existing residents and to support new housing in the east of Exeter.

With hourly trains to Exeter and London, Pinhoe rail station can provide an attractive sustainable travel choice that can help reduce traffic in the area. We are therefore looking to improve facilities for interchange at the station.

Scheme

To improve the attractiveness of the station and provide more opportunities for rail travel we are looking to enhance the interchange facilities at the station. The new facilities are proposed on land to the north east of the level crossing, between Causey Lane and the rail track, and is proposed to include the following:

  • 17 car parking spaces, including two disabled bays
  • 15 secure bike lockers
  • taxi stand
  • stand for minibus shuttle to Exeter Airport

Additionally, an electric car club vehicle for public hire and an electric charging point will be provided in the existing car park to the south of the platforms. This would complement the electric bike hire that is set to go in later in Autumn 2019.

Minor changes will also be made to the entrance to improve visibility. These changes will not affect the number of existing parking spaces on Station Road.

An overview of the proposed scheme design is shown at the link below:

We believe the proposed scheme provides a modest level of additional parking and interchange facilities for rail passengers. This will help to improve the attractiveness of the station and help to encourage a higher number of rail trips to and from the homes and jobs in and around Pinhoe.

Our intention is to submit a planning application for the new interchange in early 2020. Prior to doing so we want to seek input and the views of local residents.

Public consultation is being held between 28 October to 25 November 2019 to seek the views of residents.
