Consultation:

Increasing Provision for Learners with Education, Health and Care Plans

UPDATE – Following consultation, the Regional Schools Commissioner (RSC) for the South West has approved the creation of Resource Bases at Okehampton Primary, Westcliff Primary and Whipton Barton Infants. The bases at Westcliff Primary (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and Okehampton Primary (Communication and Interaction) are opening as planned, January 2022.

The RSC has not been able to support proposals for Resource Bases at Teignmouth Community School and Great Torrington School at this current time.

Background information on all the Resource Base proposals is available below.

Devon County Council is consulting, in collaboration with the Academies shown below, on increasing provision for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) across the County in the following types of Resource Bases:

  • Communication and Interaction (for learners displaying ASC behaviours),
  • Social, emotional and mental health and
  • Nurture bases – primary schools.

The intentions within each of these Resource Bases will be to support learners to overcome barriers to learning, to be resilient and to be better able to cope and to be re-integrated into a mainstream setting in which they can achieve their potential.

Capacity in the following Bases is for a minimum of 6 learners with capacity to extend to a maximum of 8 learners:
